No New Apps for Oculus Go

What They Say

The Protocol newsletter highlighted that Facebook will shut down new app submissions for Oculus Go, the $200 standalone VR headset first introduced in May 2018. It will support Gear VR and Go devices, at least for now, with Facebook pledging to support the latter through 2022.

The article also includes a description of how mobile VR got started and how it existed as a ‘stepping stone’ to dedicated devices.

What We Think

This is an interesting look at the development of the Gear VR. The application got excitement early on, but didn’t get consumers to keep coming back. I admit that’s what applied to me, but the younger members of my family enjoyed it quite a lot. I’m thinking of getting a PlayStation 5, so perhaps I’ll add VR onto that sometime. (BR)
