Earlier this year (Display Monitor Vol 21 No 13), Mitsubishi Chemical and Pioneer began to mass-produce OLED lighting modules, made with a wet-coating system. However, these had a lifespan of 15,000 hours. Mitsubishi has now developed panels with twice the lifetime – 30,000 hours – by changing the composition of the panel’s materials.
OLED materials in the lighting panel were replaced with stronger ones and the structure itself was changed. The work has slowed the pace of OLED deterioration.
Pioneer will manufacture the new products.
