What They Say
Microsoft, the most valuable company in the world when I last looked (and that’s not often!) has responded to Meta’s talk of the Facebookverse by talking up its plans to add mixed-reality functions to its Teams platform. CNET reports that it will integrate Microsoft’s Azure-powered Mesh for mixed-reality shared experiences into Teams and its own productivity tools and will allow users create dynamic avatars that can mimic speaking and gestures.
The technology has been compared to Meta’s Horizon Workrooms feature.
What We Think
Arguably, Microsoft already has metaverses in the Minecraft and Flight Simulator world, but they are built around entertainment, not collaboration and productivity. (BR)
