Mercedes Pushes the Boat Out on Concept Design

Mercedes has shown a new concept car at a show in Pebble Beach, California, that has a wrap-around fibre-optic display in the cockpit. The electric Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet uses four electric motors to produce 740bhp – giving a 0-62mph time of 4 seconds. The design has been influenced by the style of superyachts.

Although there is a wrap around display, the instrument cluster looks quite old fashioned and driver information is mainly presented through dual HUDs on the windscreen. Other features include biometric sensors to record the “state of mind” of passengers.

The optics of the HUD must be a challenge with such a steeply raked windscreen. (BR)
