Counterpoint Research reported on the Mediatek annual Executive Summit in Sonoma, California and highlighted the key announcements at the event. It also pointed out that the firm’s chips address markets with a TAM of $780 billion by 2026. At the event, there were four new announcements.
- MediaTek’s new flagship SoC, the Dimensity 9200, contains around 17 billion transistors, making it one of the most powerful mobile platforms.
- The second-generation thin modem T800 is expected to build on the T700’s design wins.
- The Kompanio 520 and 528 chipsets will bring full HD+, dual monitors and smart TV connectivity to entry-level Chromebooks.
- The Pentonic 1000 chipset will bring new AI advancements as well as versatile video coding to flagship 4K 120Hz TVs.
The firm also said that its SoC is built into the upcoming new PS-VR headset.
What We Think
Several other sites picked up on the claim by Mediatek that its chips are in more than 2 billion TV sets. Sony’s current TVs are reported to use the MediaTek MT5895 (MT9950) SoC.
The firm also brought Kazuo Kii from Sony to talk about the collaboration that Sony has had with MediaTek and that has helped it to stay in the premium TV market. (BR)
