Matterport is a Sunnyvale, California, company that is building a database of images and models for VR. It is claiming the world’s largest collection of VR-focused real-world models and locations as it claims to have 300,000 locations in its database and says it could do this quickly because of the firm’s special camera which it says makes surveying quick and easy. The database is available for free and will be for content that is added this year, but from 2017, access to new content will cost content developers $19 per new 3D space. The firm has its own VR app to allow access to its stereo content.
