Matchstick Sparks Kickstarter Rush

Mozilla’s Chromecast rival, Matchstick (Display Monitor Vol 21 No 26), has been revealed, with a competitive price of $25. The device, which was quickly funded on Kickstarter (http://tinyurl.com/karoadz), uses open-source software. Developers are being invited to build apps now, although first-gen Chromecast apps will run as standard. Matchstick connects to an HDMI port and features 1GB RAM and 4GB flash memory (compared to Chromecast’s 512MB and 2GB). iOS and Android screen mirroring to the TV is supported, as well as websites opened in Firefox and Chrome from a laptop to a TV.
