Marvell adds 2160P 10 bit Support

Marvell had a meeting room at the event and was talking about its new Armada 1500 Ultra (88D3218) chip for STBs, an upgrade on the Armada 1500 Plus launched at the end of 2014. The chip has a Quad Core 14K DMIPS ARM A53 CPU (1.5GHz) and an 8 core GPU (rated at 51 GFLOPs). The firm said it is the first to bring 64-bit ARM technology to both the mobile and STB categories.

The features of the chip include:

  • 2160p60 10 bit HEVC & VP9 Video Decode, 1080p PiP and transcoding with patented scaling techniques
  • 8 core GPU, 8 shader Vivante GC7000XS with hardware tessellation and geometry shaders optimised for Android gaming
  • Security engine with trusted rendering path using TrustZone, and hardware support for video watermarking tehnologies such as Verimatrix VideoMark and Civolution NexGuard
  • SDKs including Android TV and RDK
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth solutions include the Avastar 88W8897 (2×2 11ac) and 88W8864 (4×4 11ac)
