Looking Glass Updates its Hardware

What They Say

Auto-stereoscopic display provider Looking Glass Factory has new 15.6″ UltraHD and 32″ 8K ‘light field’ displays (also described as ‘holographic’) and with the suffix Gen2. Both displays are said to provide from 45 to 100 views in a viewing cone of 53°. The 8K is available as an ‘advance Beta’ in August with main orders despatching from October. The 4K display costs from $3000 and the 8K from $25000.

What We Think

In my view, the claims of ‘holography’ irritate me. The Looking Glass displays seem to be the best of the current AS3D displays – that should be enough without pushing the claims further. “Light field(” as a term is probably more arguable, but I wouldn’t see these display as being truly light-field displays.
