LG Display (LGD) moved from its hotel suite location this year to the North Meeting Rooms which seems to have meant an overloading of the press sessions as more journalists tried to find out what the company is doing. That meant a frantic “whistlestop” tour for us, which was a shame as there was so much to look at. Display Daily was also the only publication to ask any questions, as most of the press were from the “gadget blog” side of the industry.
The firm first showed the difference between the complexity of the structure of an LCD and OLED panel (image on right).
The first panel we looked at was a 23″ FullHD panel that is a “coverless” design with LG Displays “AIT” in-cell touch support and bezels of 3.5mm on each side, and 12.6mm along the bottom. Other specifications were unremarkable. The panel will be available in the second half of 2016.
A new panel was an 8K (7680 x 4320) panel with 31.5″ diagonal and based on an Oxide transistor backplane, which LGD said has mobility in the range of 7-10cm²/Vs. The resolution means that the panel has 280 ppi and it is rated as having 400 cd/m² of brightness, 10 bit colour depth and contrast ratio of 1,300:1. Colour gamut is 100% of AdobeRGB and 99% of DCI P3. Bezels are 13.5mm all around and thickness is 20mm and the driving interface is V-by-One. The 8K panel will be available during 2017.
