LG Display Overloads with 8K, OLED, Ultra Stretch, Concave, Convex, Transparent, Flexible, Touch Displays! Phew!!!

LGD announced its ArtSlim concept last year. In this concept, LGD supplies the panel with a casing that covers most of the panel and the set maker (monitor or TV) simply adds a box to the back and lower side of the panel. This means that the integration is very simple and the bezel and case can be very slim. On show in Las Vegas was a 23.8″ version with 3.5mm bezels on three sides and 12.6mm along the bottom and known as the “Extreme Art Slim” concept as the LCD module is less than 5mm thick. Other specifications are in line with the market at 250cd/m² brightness, 1,000:1 contrast and 72% colour gamut.

LGD has further developed its GIP (Gate in Panel) driver technology to allow even narrower bezels and thinner panels. The company showed a 31.5″ UltraHD panel with 5.5mm borders on three sides (and 6.95mm on the fourth side) using the technology. Brightness is 350 cd/m² and contrast was 1,300:1 with full support of the sRGB gamut. Thickness is 13.6mm.

Moving to notebooks, LGD was showing a “Super Light” 15.6″ FullHD panel using an a-si backplane and with 141ppi. Bezels are 2.85mm on three sides and 7.99mm along the bottom. Thickness is just 2.3mm and weight is 225g. Brightness is 300 cd/m² , contrast is 800:1, but colour gamut is just 60% of NTSC. The panel is already in mass production.

There was a demonstration of a 13.3″ FullHD notebook panel with bezels of 2.8mm on three sides, 8.32mm below and maximum thickness of 2.4mm using the improved GIP concept. The contrast was 1,000:1 and colour gamut of 72% while brightness is 300 cd/m². Power consumption is 4.24W (0.98 + 3.26W)
