LG Chem Claims LED Efficacy for OLED Lighting

LG Chem claims to have developed an efficient, long-life OLED lighting panel., comparable to LED devices.

While fluorescent panels reach 100 lm/W efficacy and a 20,000 hour lifespan, LED lights can exceed 100 lm/W and approach a 50,000 hour lifespan. LG Chem’s OLED panel has 100lm/W efficacy and will last for 40,000 hours.

A modular OLED lighting engine has also enabled LG Chem to lower the production cost of OLED devices. A company official, speaking to Korean media, said, “We could increase the production yield significantly by applying a new OLED material. Once we begin the mass-production of the devices in earnest, we will be able to reduce the unit cost [to] almost as low as that of LED lights”.
