John Lewis in the UK is taking orders for this year’s LG 42″ C2 OLED and has published a price of £1,399 ($1,575 + tax), the same price as the 48″ version which is also online. One of its competitors, Richer Sounds in the UK, has the same price, although last year’s 48″ models are cheaper
What We Think
This is a significant test of the theory that European and Japanese consumers want smaller sets even if they don’t save much money. Set makers did want smaller panels than LG Display had offered, but unless LG Display can cut more 42″ than 48″ panels from its G8.5 substrates (or use MMG to get better efficiency), it won’t be able to sell them for much less money.
