Asus has shared more details about its 28″ gaming monitor, shown off at CES: the MG28UQ (LDM Product Roundup – Vol 23 No 03). It has a TN panel with UltraHD resolution and a 1ms response time. Viewing angles are 170°/160°, with 330 cd/m² of brightness, flicker-free backlight and low blue light technology. For connectivity, the monitor boasts DisplayPort (with Adaptive Sync), HDMI 1.4 (x2), HDMI 2.0a and USB 3.0 (x2). In terms of gaming features, the display has a built-in frame rate counter; trace-free technology; skin-tone selection; colour temperature selection; and Asus’ GamePlus modes. The features include adding a crosshair to the screen. Release details have not been shared yet.
The 27UD88 monitor from LG (Sensational Displays at CES) has achieved DisplayPort over USB-C certification – the first UltraHD display in the world to do so, says the company. The certification enables the transfer of UltraHD video, USB and 100W of power through USB-C. Testing was performed by Granite River Labs.
More information has been shared about LG‘s ‘affordable’ 2016 OLED TVs, the B6 (flat) and C6 (curved) ranges (LG’s Signature is Pure and Gimmick-Free). They will be available in 55″ and 65″ sizes, with UltraHD resolution, wide colour gamut and HDR support. They will feature WebOS 3.0 and will be launched in the USA around summer time. A European launch will follow later.
‘A senior source in the UK tech channel’ has told PCR that Nvidia‘s new Pascal graphics cards will “most likely” be launched in the summer, around May or June. The first card will be a high-end, but not flagship, unit. The source also said that an AMD card would follow shortly after. Meanwhile, UK distributor Entatech has said that it expects new cards from both AMD and Nvidia in Q3’16.
The European launch date of Panasonic‘s DMP-UB900 UltraHD Blu-ray player (Panasonic uses ‘Honeycomb’ for HDR) has been revealed by Swiss retailers. Several, such as Digitech.ch, list the launch as the 11th April.
Panasonic‘s premium CZ950 OLED TV, launched at IFA (Panasonic Joins the Exclusive OLED TV Club), has appeared on Amazon for £2,800 ($4,050). However, we caution readers to be sceptical: it is from a new seller, and Panasonic said in September that the list price would be €10,000 – about £7,700!
Germany’s United Entertain is now selling transparent OLED displays, with a transparency of 50% – 75%. They are 10-point multitouch models for digital signage, housed in a stainless steel totem. Resolution is 1920 x 1080 and size is 55″. HDMI, DVI and WiFi connectivity is featured. We are searching for more information on this model.
Vizio will launch its D-Series LCD TVs in the USA shortly (Vizio Provides TV Choice in D-Series). There have been some price updates since we last covered the sets. The range now starts at $140 for the D24hn-D1 (from $150) and scales to $1,200 for the D70-D3 (from $1,300). The UltraHD TVs include the 65″ D65u-D2 ($1,000, down from $1,200); 58″ D58u-D3 ($750, from $1,050), 55″ D55u-D1 ($700, from $880), 50″ D50u-D1 ($600, from $730) and 40″ D40u-D1 (price TBA).
