L16 Camera Falls Short of Promises

It’s not a display, but we work on the principle that our readers may also be interested in images and their creation as well as their display. Light is a company that has developed a very novel L16 camera that uses up to 10 of 16 cameras that use folded optics and makes the camera (relatively) small, compared to a D-SLR or other high end camera. The camera uses a range of different focal lengths and then processes the captured images to create a single final image of 52 megapixels. The system can create depth maps to allow adjustment of depth of field after capture.

The L16 is now shipping and costs $1,850

Light has a frustratingly slow website. I was intrigued by the technology, but then found this review, which highlights issues with the concept. However, the idea looks as though it is powerful and with the right development and direction, might eventually prove useful. (BR)
