Jolla’s Sailfish Tablet Funded in Hours

Jolla, a spin-off from Nokia that pushes a mobile OS called Sailfish, has successfully crowdfunded a tablet. Actually, the company smashed its $380,000 target on Indiegogo. At the time of writing the campaign still had 20 days left to run and had raised almost $1 million.

Gambling on a largely-unknown OS is a risk (that’s what gamble means), but not as large-a-one as you might think; the tablet will be able to run Android apps. Current plans are for a 7.85″ display with an IPS panel and 2048 x 1536 resolution. Sailfish will run on a quad-core 1.8GHz Intel processor (based on Atom 3700), with 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage and a micro-SD slot.

Unlike Android, iOS and Windows Phone, Sailfish is an open-source operating system.
