What They Say
JOLED put out a press release and video with LandSkip Inc that announced that the firms have developed portrait-shaped 22″ OLEDs for use as virtual windows for aircraft. There is also a ‘virtual window’ for offices and other closed spaces.
What We Think
This is a good application for OLEDs. Aircraft designers really don’t like windows, they introduce structural weakness to the airframe and add weight. Part of me thinks that passengers won’t like the idea, but in reality, passengers will fly if it can be safe and cheap. Certainly, the use of OLED displays could probably reduce the amount of fuel used. (BR)
