UK culture secretary John Whittingdale has said that the BBC will soon close the iPlayer ‘loophole’, and will force those watching TV online to pay a licence fee. Currently, licence holders can use the iPlayer to watch live TV, but anyone in the UK can use it for catch-up programming.
