Production Automation Makes Up For Labour Shortage

In order to reduce the impact of rising wages and short labour supply in China, Inventec is said to have begun to trial production line automation at factories in Shanghai in late November. When trials are completed at the end of Q1, the company expects to decrease labour input by 30%. The trial automation focuses on replacement of manual product testing practice with robotic arms at surface-mount technology and assembly lines. In the mid-term, Inventec aims to attain complete automation of 80% of production lines.
