Intel to Merge PC, Mobile Chip Units

Intel is reported to be planning a merger of its PC business with its mobile and tablet chip unit to create one entity, the Client Computing Group. The announcement is reported to have been made through an email sent by CEO Brian Krzanich to all employees earlier this week. The new group will be led by Kirk Skaugen, a senior VP currently in charge of Intel’s PC Client Group.

Intel’s mobile and communications group reported an operating loss in Q3 of more than $1 billion, which is in contrast to the recovery seen in Intel’s PC business, which last quarter posted turnover of $9.2 billion, 6% higher sequentially and 9% up on the third quarter of last year (Display Monitor Vol 21 No 42).
