Innolux DST Adds Force Sensing to In-cell Touch

Innolux has said that its DST (Deep Sensing Technology) has a unique electrode design that can add force sensing to in-cell touch. This means that it can be used with thick gloves and combines the advantages of resistive and capacitive touch technologies. This could be a big advantage in applications such as medicine and in high voltage engineering and maintenance.

The force sensing supports five levels of sensitivity and because the system can also support multitouch, it could be used, for example, by musicians to add expression to playback. Games players in driving games could also use the pressure levels to control acceleration and braking.

The technology is also said to be very accurate in matching the performace of traditional capacitive technology and can even work with non-conductive stylii such as units made with rubber.

The first markets for the technology are expected to be in small and medium sized panel applications .
