We don’t cover lighting, but we noted a report on a new initiative, the IseLED Alliance, that is working to support full colour lighting in automotive applications. The Alliance consists of Inova Semiconductors, Dominant Opto Technologies, NXP, TE Connectivity, and Pforzheim University and the idea is to allow relatively simple and low cost control of full colour LED lighting in automotive applications. A 3mm x 4mm tricolour LED package includes a simple controller from NXP and can 4096 such modules can be addressed using a single microcontroller. Inova developed an interface and communication protocol.
