Electronica takes place in Munich every two years. A late invitation to speak at the SID event in Rio meant that Display Monitor’s plans had to change on short notice, so Tom attended instead of Bob.
Major display makers, as we noticed at the 2012 show, were absent. Electronica has become more about industrial electronics and automotive applications as the display business has moved to Asia, so chips and controllers for these segments were common. The shifting market for industrial electronics – which is slowly changing from TN (meaning old monochrome LCD displays) to TFT (new full motion colour types) – was on many minds. Some companies had decided to stick to what they do best and continue in a shrinking market, while others are investigating new types of display.
The next European show will take place between the 8th and 11th November 2016.
