iFixit Confirms Google Pixel 3 XL Features Samsung AMOLED

iFixit’s teardown of the new Pixel 3 XL smartphone from Google revealed a Samsung AMOLED display. Google has historically used LG for its OLED display technology, though as iFixit rightly points out, the presence of a Samsung display doesn’t necessarily mean that Google has cut its ties with LG altogether. Rather, it could simply mean that Google is sourcing displays from both companies for its latest handsets.

Last week, DisplayMate’s Dr. Ray Soneira correctly deduced that the Pixel 3 XL featured a Samsung display. The new handset’s predecessor, the Pixel 2 XL, is manufactured by LG and uses its P-OLED display tech. Shortly after its release, Google received complaints from consumers regarding image retention.
