What They Say
Huawei is to enter the monitor market to compete with Xiaomi and others. The standard monitors will be made by BOE Vison-Electronic Technology (BOEVT), an ODM arm of BOE Technology and will be available at the end of the year. TPV will be used as a supplier of curved gaming monitors and will make a million for Huawei.
The move is seen as part of a move into the mainstream desktop PC market by the Chinese brand. It will make a Linux-based PC.
What We Think
Given the problems that Huawei is having in smartphones, it’s no real surprise to see the company looking to other markets. However, the company can’t really get into the PC market outside China without using a lot of US technology, which could be a problem given the actions of the Trump administration. Although most of the discussion about the impact of the ban on the company to its smartphone business, it won’t be able to continue long in the notebook market. (BR)

Huawei reportedly is set to launch own brand monitors, including curved gaming models, as it prepares to compete with newcomers such as Xiaomi in the sector, according to industry sources.
Huawei will outsource the production of standardized monitor products to BOE Vison-Electronic Technology (BOEVT), an ODM arm of BOE Technology, with initial offerings of 2-3 models, said the sources.
Huawei will also subcontract the manufacture of curved gaming monitors to TPV Technology with initial orders reaching over one million units in current mainstream 27- and 34-inch sizes, the sources added.
Huawei’s ambitious move into the monitor market comes in line with increasingly market speculations indicating that the company is also ready to enter the desktop PC market.
The company’s first desktop model reportedly will be Qingyun W510, powered by HiSilicon’s 7nm Kunpeng 920 3211K, and will run UOS (Unity Operating System), a Chinese Linux version co-developed by CEC (China Electronics Corporation), Deepin and Archermind Technology.
The desktop PC reportedly will be manufactured by Hongfujin Precision Industry (Wuhan), a subsidiary of Foxconn Electronics, indicated the sources.
