HTC Announces Standalone VR Headset for China

HTC will launch a standalone VR headset for the China market at this year’s Vive Developer Conference in Beijing on November 14th, according to a report on Chinese VR industry news site YiVian.

Translating a poster for the conference, YiVian confirmed the launch of the device, which will use HTC’s Viveport platform. The poster also teases a silhouette of a VR headset device inside an egg. The headset is expected to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 mobile VR platform and won’t require a PC or smartphone connection.

The device’s official name is currently unknown, though YiVian revealed that HTC recently registered a trademark for “Vive M” in China.
