HP has unveiled the Spectre Folio, a convertible PC made with 100% chromed tan, full-grain leather, which the company says has allowed it to create an all-new computer form factor. The device can be transformed from a traditional laptop position, to a tent position that tucks the keyboard away for sturdier support on the lap, to a tablet mode, all made possible using magnets and the natural flexibility of the leather case acting as a hinge.
The Spectre Folio incorporates what HP claims is one of the smallest motherboards in the industry, 8th Gen Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, a fan-less thermal design and four front-facing speakers with Bang & Olufsen audio.
Other features include up to 16GB RAM, up to 2TB of SSD storage, an 18-hour battery life and a 1080p display in two types; one with a brightness of 300cd/m² or a low-power, 1-watt 400cd/m² option.
An Ultra HD version will be available in late December, the company said. The device uses gigabit-class LTE, dual eSIM capabilities, an optional nano-SIM slot under the display and an optional embedded digital eSIM. Sprint customers are also being offered free unlimited data for six months with Autopay.
The HP Spectre Folio is available for pre-order now through HP’s own website and Best Buy, priced from $1,300, with devices shipping from October 29th.
