HP Claims World’s First Chromebook Detachable

HP has announced the first Chromebook in a detachable form factor, the X2. HP said that Chromebook sales have grown by more than 50% over the last two years, quoting IDC. The unit has a 12.3″ 2560 x 1440 (QuadHD) display with Gorilla Glass 4 and there is a magnetic hinge for easy attachment. Touch is supported and a pen is supplied with some models.

The processor is from the 7th generation Core range from Intel and memory is up to 8GB of LPDDR3. Storage is up to 32GB, but can be expanded by microSD up to 256GB and 100GB of cloud storage is bundled. Battery life is quoted at 10 hours, and the tablet is 8.2 mm thick and weighs 1.62 pounds (0.73kg). With the included keyboard the device is 15.3 mm thin and weighs 3.14 pounds (1.42kg). Cameras are 5MP and 13MP. Connectivity includes dual USB Type-C which support the DisplayPort alt-mode for external display.

The unit is due to ship on June 10 and will cost from $599.
