Hon Hai Says it’s Not Cutting Jobs

Hon Hai Group says it does not plan to reduce the number of people it employs and that it will maintain its employee numbers at more than one million worldwide.

The group was responding to reports that its subsidiary, Foxconn Technology, was to reduce its massive workforce, in the face of rising labour costs caused by the intense media scrutiny following a series of suicides by company employees in 2010.

A spokesman for Hon Hai said that the company wanted to increase the use of industrial automation and reduce the scale of new hiring in the next few years, but that it does not plan to reduce the total number of employees.
