Hands-Free, Head-Mounted Tablets

RealWear has launched what it describes as the first industrial head-mounted Android tablet, but what most people would describe as an Android-based A/R headset. The handset is designed to be used hands-free and can respond to voice commands. It has a display with 854 x 480 pixels and is intended to look like a 7″ tablet held at arm’s length. It can be worn on the head or mounted on a safety helmet.

The battery is a 3250 mAh unit and is swappable and rechargeable. The processor is a Snapdragon 625 with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Other features include gyroscopes, GPS and a digital compass as well as bluetooth and Wi-fi. There is an integrated 16MP camera with autofocus and stabilisation.

The headset is intended to survive a 2 metre drop onto concrete (Mil Spec. 810G) and is dust and waterproof to IP66. There is a model, the HMT-1-Z1 that is designed for potentially explosive environments and is rated to Atex – Zone 1.
