Following the launch of ARCore, Google will cease support for Tango, its original AR development kit, on March 1st, 2018.
Tango uses a depth sensor in conjunction with a camera and proprietary software that allows developers to map spaces in 3D.
On Twitter, the Tango team thanked its “incredible community of developers” for their efforts since Project Tango launched back in 2014. The Tango SDK lives on as a part of ARCore.
Analyst Comment
The main difference between the Tango and ARCore environments is that Tango needed dedicated hardware, while ARRCore can use typical smart device features. (BR)
