Google Now Has UltraHD Movies

Google has now added support for UltraHD content to its ‘Google Play Movies & TV’ for customers in the US and Canada at the moment, with other countries to follow shortly. Initially 125 titles have been made available.

Costs are higher than for HD ($25-$30 for UHD compared to $13-$15 to own for HD, $8 to rent compared to $4). The service is using Google’s own VP9 codec technology and supported devices are currently Sony Android TVs, Chromecast Ultra and the Xiaomi Mi Box 3. There is no news yet for support on LG & Samsung Smart TVs.
