Google and Imax have shut down two of their seven location-based VR centres. Whether the remaining five locations remain open or not is, apparently, still open for debate.
The development of the Imax VR camera has also been put on hold. A spokesperson told Variety, “We’ve currently paused the development of the Imax VR camera while we continue to review the viability of our pilot programme”.
Sources close to the matter also revealed that Google was the driving force behind the decision, keen to shift its focus to AR development. (IMAX Plans VR Experiences)
