Goertek of China said that it has opened a new global R&D headquarters in Qingdao, China. The firm said that it invests 6%-8% of its revenues in R&D and it has applied for 20,000 patents, with more than 10,000 granted.
Upon completion, the headquarters will have a total construction area of more than 300,000 square meters.
What We Think
Sadly, I haven’t had the chance to catch up with Goertek since the beginning of 2018 at CES. We’d previously also seen them at Laval and CES. The company has a lot of different technologies and design skills and seems to have the aim of being the Foxconn/TPV of VR. That is to say, the volume provider, but not the final brand. (BR)
