German DVB-I Project underway

What They Say

A project in Germany to develop an internet-delivered service to provide linear channels and compete with terrestrial broadcast is being developed using the DVB-I standard. Firms involved include Sony, TPVision (Philips licensee) and Vestel as well as German broadcasters and others.

Key features of DVB-I include structured service lists which enable a harmonised user interface, low latency streaming and options for additional services. DVB-I streams can also be combined with conventional broadcast over satellite, cable and terrestrial to provide a hybrid experience.

What We Think

At the moment this is a pilot project to look at feasibility and check for ‘technical gaps’. The group will be on the DVB and EBU stands at IBC. (BR)
