German Cable Operators Team Up on Digital Switch-Over Initiative

A group of Germany’s cable operators and broadcasters have launched Digitales Kabel, an initiative designed to smooth the country’s transition from analogue to digital cable television.

Among the members of the initiative are network operators Vodafone Deutschland, Telekom Deutschland and Pÿur, as well as broadcast groups ARD, Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland and ProSiebenSat.1.

The Association of German Cable Network Operators (ANGA) and the Association of Private Broadcasting and Telemedia (VPRT) are also backing the initiative, while Goldmedia has been commissioned to operate the project office.

Several cable operators have already or are in the process of removing all analogue channels from their networks in anticipation of the switch-over, including Unitymedia, wilhelm.tel and NetCologne.
