Two new DVI-over-CAT-X products have been released by Gefen.
The DVI ELR (Extra Long Range) Extender over One CAT-5 (EXT-DVI-1CAT5-ELR) can be used to transport DVI signals up to 150m, using HDBaseT technology. Video resolutions can reach 1920 x 1200 and a single CAT-5e or CAT-6 cable is used. The product’s ‘green’ operating mode can lower power consumption when the extender is not in active use. It is available now for $480.
Also released was a product that puts safety at the forefront: the DVI Extender with Galvanic Isolator (EXT-DVI-1CAT6-GI). The galvanic isolation provides up to 5kV of isolation between the source and downstream equipment, to protect users from electric shocks. Designed for use in healthcare applications, the product is compliant with the third edition of medical equipment safety and EMC standards EN60601-1 and EN60601-1-2. The product is also said to raise imaging performance by eliminating ground loops.
Like the EXT-DVI-1CAT5-ELR, the EXT-DVI-1CAT6-GI supports up to 1920 x 1200 resolution. Video can be transferred up to 40m over CAT-6 or 30m over CAT-5e. The product costs $1,200.
