Fujifilm Outputs 4K with 10 Bits

Fujifilm has added a new mirrorless camera, the X-T3, that is able to record true DCI 4096 x 2160 video at 60fps with 10 bits of grey scale in 4:2:2 format through its external connector. The video can then be captured in an external recorder, such as the Atomos Ninja V which supports the Pro-res codec. The internal recording is in 4:2:0 format and with another codec. Fujifilm supports its own F-Log HDR format or HLG.

The extra bit depth really helps if you are trying to capture HDR content. The contrast on the Fujifilm camera is with the more expensive Sony Alpha series which can only output 8 bit video. You can call me cynical, but I suspect that this might be that the quality of the result would otherwise challenge some of Sony’s professional video cameras! (BR)
