Foxconn has announced it will partner with Red Digital Camera on professional-quality, affordable 8K video cameras for public consumption, as well as expanding into the manufacture of semiconductors for displays and cameras.
Red already sells an 8K video camera, which retails at around $30,000. Foxconn Chairman Terry Gou stated the company’s intention to launch an 8K video camera at a third of the current size and a third of the current cost. Foxconn’s decision to move into the video camera and semiconductor markets is based on weakening demand for smartphones.
