What They Say
In leaks in the Korean press over the weekend and in its press event today, LG said that it will introduce a new 83″ size. It will also use the passive cooled OLEDs, first supplied by Panasonic, as the 2021 OLED evo line. There is a new AI-based processor, the Alpha 9 8K that optimises audio and video with ambient compensation, virtual 5.1.2 audio and automatic volume levelling.
There is a new version of Web 6 OS which is intended to make it quicker to find content. The latest remote includes NFC to pair with smartphones for mirroring or for watching TV content on the device.
LG promoted its OLEDs as ideal for gaming and a video was shown in the press event that included Nvida demonstrating OLEDs with ray tracing.
Although LG Display has said that it will make a 42″ OLED panel, LG Electronics has not revealed any models, yet.
LG Electronics said that its miniLED TVs (65″ – 86″) will have up to 30,000 LEDs (86″ model) and up to 2500 zones.
What We Think
There wasn’t much that was surprising about the TV announcements from LGE, which seemed more interested in its domestic appliances. We were intrigued by the new 4K OLED monitor and I’ll cover that separately. (BR)
