Facebook is in the process of launching Watch, its new video platform which will host television shows and other episodic content, and is designed to rival other platforms such as YouTube and Snapchat.
The social media giant has begun to roll out Facebook Watch to a select group of US-based creators and publishers.
Watch will be released to more users in the US over the coming weeks, including those using Facebook via their computers and mobile devices, as well as TV apps.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said,
“We hope Watch will be home to a wide range of shows, from reality to comedy to live sports.
Some will be made by professional creators and others from regular people in our community”.
Watch will enable users to discover relevant content from outside their individual news feed more easily, and follow particular creators and brands to stay up-to-date with the shows and videos they want to see.
In future updates, creators and publishers will be able to generate revenue from hosting their content on Facebook Watch using Ad Breaks.
