Speaking at the MIPCOM UHD trade fair in Cannes, which opened on October 16th, Eutelsat’s Claudia Director of Global Market Research, Claudia Vaccarone, delivered a positive update on the continued growth of Ultra HD TV.
Vaccarone said that there are now 99 UHD channels available to TV viewers. Citing research data from Lyngsat and Eutelsat themselves, Vaccarone also revealed that 41 of these channels are transmitted via satellite, while 56 are provided by IPTV, cable or streaming services, with the remaining two broadcasting terrestrially.
37 UHD channels have commenced operations over the past year. Eutelsat currently carries a reported 32% of all UHD channels on its network, including Fashion One 4K, Home 4K, Fransat Ultra HD and Funbox UHD.
Vaccarone also took a moment to highlight the enthusiasm for UHD technology within the hotel industry, as the Accor hotel group prepares to invest €225 million ($264.75 million) in improvements to its hotels over the next four years, including in-room devices such as televisions.
