What They Say
We published the release from Compound Photonics about its deal with GlobalFoundries (GF) (Interview: Compound Photonics Partners with GLOBALFOUNDRIES to Manufacture Microdisplay Chip) and we subsequently spotted that DSCC had gone one further by interviewing the firms about the technology and the implications of making the devices.
The article highlights the advantage of GF manufacturing processes for the microdisplays and has some interesting details on how similar circuitry can be used to drive LCOS and microLED display devices.
What We Think
This is an interesting article if you need to understand more about the integration of displays on the GF Fully Depleted Silicon On Insulator (FD-SOI) wafers. Display Daily’s friend, Bob O’Donnell also recently published an interesting analysis of GF’s semiconductor strategy with more on FD-SOI. (BR)
