DisplayLink continued its positive development and, as at CES, it had a much bigger booth at MWC this year, where it had the same demos that it showed in Las Vegas, including the wireless solution for the HTC Vive and which will soon be available for the Vive Pro. The technology can support up to four users simultaneously.
We didn’t mention the daisy chain demo in our report from CES. The company had a demonstration of eight UltraHD monitors being driven from a single PC using four daisy-chained docks. The docks are commercial units and worked ‘out of the box’. This highlights that the DisplayLink technology is powerful enough for some video wall applications, so we expect to see some specific marketing activities from the company towards that application.
Also at the show, the company confirmed that it has now tested Qualcomm-based convertible Windows PCs as working correctly with existing docks. Although the driver is not included with Windows S, it can be downloaded and, at the moment, buyers can claim a free upgrade to Windows 10, which includes native DisplayLink drivers.
