Digital TV Up in Germany, but Commercial HD Stumbles

The Digitalisation Report for 2016, published by the German media authorities, says that 35 million (or 92.3%) of German households now receive digital TV services. The percentage is 82.1% of those using cable, the last networks offering analogue TV. This means that the expected 2018 analogue switch-off looks achievable.

Most households use DTH satellite (46.5%) or cable (45.9%) with the remainder on DTT (9%) or IPTV (6.2%).

HD viewing increased from 48.1% to 53.1% (20.2 million households) over the year but HD reception of commercial Pay TV channels remains low at 18.8% or 7.5 million households.
