Developers have reported that there are references to a ‘RealityOS’ in Apple code. The existence of the OS was first suggested by Bloomberg back in 2017. (Apple Readying Standalone AR Headset for 2020 Release?)
References to realityOS have been found in the open source dyld repo and in the App Store upload logs. It is also identified as a possible OS simulator.
What We Think
It’s interresting that in 2017, the headset was expected by 2020. Now Bloomberg is suggesting that it could be delayed from an announcement this year. Apple showed with the iPad, which was a long long way from the first tablet, that it is prepared to wait until it can deliver the kind of experience that it wants to before coming to market. (BR)
