Dell Partners with Meta to Bring Augmented Reality to Industries

Dell has announced it will be the first authorised reseller of the Meta 2 Augmented Reality Development Kit, equipping commercial companies with the tools needed to adopt new AR technology applications that can advance their business more easily. In partnership with Meta, Dell aims to make AR more accessible for business deployment, particularly in healthcare, manufacturing and construction.

The Meta 2 Augmented Reality Development Kit will make the Meta AR headset compatible with a number of Dell’s professional PCs, including Precision and Canvas, as well as bundle the products together for purchase.

Among the applications is a Medical Holodeck, which leverages the Dell Canvas and the Meta headset to allow medical professionals to collaborate in AR. Dell is also planning to introduce “AR in a box,” a platform from which channel partners and sales people can show off new Dell Meta AR innovations to potential customers.

The Meta 2 Augmented Reality Development Kit will be available for sale on the Dell website from February 15th, retailing at $1,495, which includes the Meta 2 AR Headset, plus access to a beta version of the Unity SDK and the Meta Developer Center, as well as an accessory bundle.

I tried the Meta at AWE in 2016 and was underwhelmed. However, that was a year and a half ago, and it may have been improved so I’m looking forward to a chance to review it again although the unit shown at AWE was the Meta 2 model, as far as I am aware. (Meta Misjudges the AWE Tone). BOE is among the investors in Meta. (BR)
