Dell has been ramping up its presence in the A/V market and this year moved from having a place on someone else’s booth, to having its own.
We started by looking at the S718QL UltraHD laser phosphor projector. The unit looked good and has HDR compatibility with the ultra short throw lens allowing a 100″ image from just 4″ (10cm) away from the wall. The projector will start to sell at the middle of July at $5,999. It was being shown with a screen that rejected ambient light and costs around $3,000 and it was shown in a credenza from Salamander Designs.
Also new was the S518WL, a 1920 x 1200 short throw DLP projector which uses laser phosphor technology to produce 3,200 lumens of output and according to my notes, the cost is just $1,299, which looks like very good value. There is a special feature that allows four split screens from network content.
The 7760 (5,400 lumens, FullHD, laser phosphor) was launched towards the end of last year and sells for $3,799 and the has proved very successful, “we can’t keep it in stock”, we heard.
Dell was also showing the HDR monitor shown at the recent NAB event. It also had a new UltraSharp monitor, the U3818DW, a 37.5″ curved (2300R) 3840 x 1600 IPS monitor for productivity applications. Luminance is 300 cd/m² and contrast is 1,000:1. Features include PIP and PBP modes as well as a single cable 100W USB Type-C connection for charging a notebook. The monitor has dual 9W speakers and supports 99% of sRGB. It was due to be available now at $1,499.
