What They Say
DCI has approved a new LG LED Display based on a model LDAA012 display device with a Dolby Media Block. The full specification said that the display was created with 6 modules per cabinet and a total of 48 cabinets.
What We Think
I couldn’t find a reference online to an LG cinema LED with this model code. In previous versions, the last three digits correlate with the pitch, so if the same schema is being used, this should be a 1.2mm display and by my calculation that would mean around a 220″ cinema at DCI 4K resolution. That would be very small even for a multiplex cinema with small viewing rooms. However, as we have heard in the past, there has been a trend to develop cinema installations that can be exclusively rented. That might be something that a 220″ display could be used in, or even in a private home, if you had access to DCI streams. (BR)
