According to reports, Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) is expected to see increased orders in Q4 and into 2015 from China for screens for 4G phones, tablets and vehicle displays. The company’s small and medium size panel shipments in the third quarter fell 8.3%, with smartphone panels reaching 38.6 million. CPT hopes that an increase in demand for niche products will help the company rebound in the fourth quarter.
CPT’s October sales improved 13.7% sequentially, though this was down 2.5% year on year, with year to date sales 2.8% lower (Display Monitor Vol 21 No 45). However, shipments of panels for smartphones were almost 30% higher. The company’s vehicle panel shipments rose 47% YoY in the first nine months of the year and CPT is aiming to reach 10 million units by the end of 2014.
